Revisiting Resolutions

Since we’ve just about reached mid year, I thought I’d take a look back at some of the goals I set for myself this year and see how I’m doing on accomplishing them. Here’s the list I shared with you way back in January:

  • Start exercising regularly (hello muffin top, it’s time you find someone else’s midsection to cling to)
  • Reopen my jewelry shop (for real this time!)
  • Style a photoshoot
  • Organize more fundraising/volunteer work (because honestly, nothing feels better than knowing you’ve helped someone when they’re down)
  • Go on a vacation (my husband and I have never been on a vacation together (!). I want to pack up the kids and do something fun for a couple of days–even if we don’t even cross state lines!)
  • Finish the projects I start (I’m talking to you, to-do list!)

. . . . . .

OK, so I haven’t tackled many of these (which probably automatically  means I’m not doing so good on that last one, huh?).

I absolutely have not exercised regularly. Or much at all, to be honest. Maybe oogling some pretty workout clothes will fix that?

I have not reopened my jewelry shop, although I did make a few pieces for our Bijou shoot, which ignited a little bit of a flame under my butt. I even discussed photo sessions with my fab business partner and photographer friend. Still, I have not made a single new piece for said photo session. I did make these headpieces though!

Pretty much the only thing I did do on this list is styling photo shoots. We had a few for Bijou that  I haven’t shared photos from yet. Here are two screenshots from pages in the first issue:

I haven’t organized any fundraising/volunteer work, but that is definitely staying on my list. I’ll have to brainstorm this weekend.

The vacation thing needs some more brainstorming too. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I’m hoping to have that ticked off my list by the end of July!

How have you done with your resolutions?

PS I finally launched a FACEBOOK PAGE! Come on over and like me! ;)

Organize Me

If there’s anything that this week’s posts have taught me, it’s that the best way to get organized is using old things in new and creative ways:

(all via Pinterest)

But when you get right down to it, all of these organization posts I’ve been doing this week are for one reason: I need to organize my life.

Organizing specific rooms in my house will make me feel like I have more control over everything, but what I’m truly looking to do is get my life in order. I need to line up work, balance my schedule, and get into a good routine. Conquering the chaos around me will help me feel one step closer to that.

Luckily, I came across two pretty awesome checklists to get me started:

This first one is from the awesome Anna of IHOD. It’s a free printable that helps you keep your to-dos in check without putting too much pressure on yourself. Hop over to her blog to print it out (clicking the picture will take you to the correct post)!

The second is a free printable from the equally fabulous Meg at Mimi + Meg. This one is a list of all of the places you should clean for a nice, fresh start to the year. I love check lists, because it feels so good every time you can check off another task!

I hope this week of organization has been helpful to you. Shoot me a comment below to let me know what other themes you would be interested in seeing in the coming months!

Healthy Start

After the calorie consuming marathon that is the holiday season, lots of ladies out there turn to healthier pastures come New Year’s Day–myself included. That’s why I was so intrigued when I came across this Green Smoothie recipe that Jessica from Monster Cakes guest blogged over at Eat Yourself Skinny:

1 banana + 1 apple + big handful of spinach + 1/2-1 full cucumber + 1/2 cup almond milk

I immediately decided I had to try it. I love smoothies. I love all of the ingredients in this recipe. Plus, I’m on the hunt for a new, healthy breakfast option.

I was a little skeptical of how all of these yummy ingredients would taste when combined and blended. Still, I’ve been wanting to try a green smoothie for awhile and I had all of the ingredients in the house so I went for it.

It was surprisingly delicious! I had to substitute chocolate almond milk because it’s all I had, which made me even more nervous and doubtful that this little experiment would end well.

But it was good! Sweet and smooth and very filling, which is just what I need in the morning.

I’m thinking I’m going to make this my new go-to breakfast. I may add a side of nuts and/or berries once in awhile, but you would be surprised at how full this little green monster will make you (which is good since, for some reason, come 10 am I start craving chocolate).

This is my first step towards healthier living. Stay tuned for the next one… which will come after I’ve eaten through all of the holiday sweets that are left in my cabinets!

Have you taken any steps to a healthier diet?

Resolutions

I don’t know about you, but come the second or third week of January, my New Year’s resolution starts to lose a bit of steam. My excitement and determination generally nose dive once February is breathing down my neck.

So instead, I decided to make myself a to-do list this year. I’m big on lists. I could make lists all day long. And it feels so good to cross an item off. It’s a small triumph that always gives me a little boost and re-energizes me for the next thing (which explains why I break things down so much: do laundry, fold laundry, put laundry away ;) ).

Here are a few of the things on my list:

I’m starting to realize that I’m a project kind of person. I need different things to work on and work towards. The problem is, I let myself get so excited about something on the horizon that I never finish anything! I need to focus, organize and tackle one thing at a time!

What about you? Did you make a resolution this year?

PS I have to leave you with this because these two are too stinkin’ cute:
